Evenings are evolving
Our regular Thursday to Saturday evening service is pausing. In its place: special themed dinners, once or twice a month — limited tables, exciting menus, absolutely no compromise.
This isn’t the end — it’s the next chapter.
A personal update
Why we're pausing evenings
After four incredibly successful months, we've decided to pause our regular Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening service. And surprisingly, it's not because it hasn't worked — quite the opposite. The evenings have been heavily booked, often completely full, and the feedback has honestly been incredible.
The reason is simply space. Our kitchen is tiny. Thursday to Saturday are already our busiest daytime services, and then we reset the same kitchen and go straight into a high-end, multi-course evening service. For me, that has meant 18–20 hour days.
After 27 years as a chef, I know the difference between making something work and making it sustainable. If we had a bigger kitchen, we would absolutely continue — the customers, bookings and passion are all there, the space simply isn't. And I will never allow our food, service or standards to suffer just to keep something going.
If you already have a booking
All existing evening bookings will, of course, be honoured — nothing about your reservation changes. We're simply not taking new regular evening reservations for now. Your confirmation email still works if you need to change or cancel, or you can call us on 07912 409507.
But this isn't the end — it's the next chapter
LA Café has evolved into LA Café Bistro, with a completely new brunch & bistro menu bringing together five years of your favourite specials alongside exciting new dishes — plus a new drinks menu and daytime wine list.
And evenings aren't disappearing. We'll be introducing special themed dinners once or twice a month: limited tables, exciting menus and absolutely no compromise. Dates go out first on Instagram.
Sometimes growing isn't about doing more. It's about doing what you do best, even better.

The same chef, after dark
Ankur's evening table
By night, it's the same kitchen and the same chef. Trained at the Institute of Hotel Management in India and with the Taj group, Ankur brings more than 27 years across luxury hotels and restaurants to Sutton High Street.
The evening service was built on the same principles that made our brunch so loved — carefully chosen ingredients, classical technique, a little modern creativity. The menu was his: slow-cooked rib eye, confit duck, a pistachio Basque cheesecake to finish. With only 6 tables a night, every plate got his attention.
That's exactly what the themed dinners will carry forward — the same standards, on nights the kitchen can give them everything.

Evening dining FAQs
Is LA Cafe Bistro still open in the evenings?+
Our regular Thursday to Saturday evening service is paused for now. The cafe is open as normal during the day, and evenings will return as special themed dinners once or twice a month.
Why has the evening service been paused?+
Space, not demand — the evenings were heavily booked and often completely full. Our kitchen is tiny, Thursday to Saturday are our busiest daytime services, and resetting the same kitchen for a high-end multi-course evening service isn't sustainable without the food or service suffering.
I already have an evening booking — is it still going ahead?+
Yes. Every existing evening booking is being honoured exactly as made. Your confirmation email still works if you need to change or cancel, and you're welcome to call us if you'd rather talk it through.
When will evening dining come back?+
Chef Ankur is finishing a brand-new brunch and bistro menu first, along with a new drinks and daytime wine list. After that, evenings return as themed dinners once or twice a month — limited tables, exciting menus, no compromise.
How will I hear about the themed dinner nights?+
Dates are announced first on our Instagram, @lacafesutton, and on this page. Tables will be limited, so they're worth watching for.
Can I still book the room for a private evening?+
Give us a call on 07912 409507 and we'll talk it through. Private events and larger parties are handled case by case.
